University of Cincinnati to award honorary doctorate to The Big O

Basketball great and businessman Oscar Robertson is one of four individuals scheduled to receive an honorary doctorate at the University of Cincinnati's spring commencement, to be held Saturday, June 9 at Fifth Third Arena on the UC campus. Robertson, who will also be honored in a special video tribute, will receive an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters. A 1960 graduate of UC with a BA in Business, The Big O co-captained the gold medal-winning 1960 U.S. Olympics basketball team, and went on to a record-setting professional career with the Cincinnati Royals and the Milwaukee Bucks.

Also scheduled to receive Honorary Doctorates of Humane Letters are Warren Bennis, a national authority on organizational development, leadership and change, who served as president of UC from 1971-1978, and Tony Trabert, a Cincinnati native and UC alumnus who won numerous tennis championships in the 1940s and 1950s, including Wimbledon in 1955. Dr. Gerald Buckberg, a renowned cardiovascular surgeon and professor of surgery at the UCLA School of Medicine who received his MD from the UC College of Medicine, will receive an Honorary Doctor of Science degree. Kent Friel, a community fellow with KnowledgeWorks Foundation, will be honored with the UC Award for Excellence. More
